Co-authored with Rachata Muneepeerakul, Rimjhim M. Aggarwal, and John M. Anderies, “How Does a Divided Population Respond to Change?” first appeared in the open-access science and medicine research journal PLOS on July 10, 2015. The article presents a mathematical model that examines the responses to dramatic sociopolitical change in populations divided “ideologically, politically, economically, or technologically.”
The article’s authors employ a modeling approach that allows a diverse and complex spectrum of human behavior dynamics to arise organically. The model shows that the responses of divided populations may vary considerably according to the magnitude of their sociopolitical transitions and the diversity of their available response strategies. Ultimately, the model can further an improved understanding of many different sociopolitical, environmental, and technological shifts.
